Batman Trailer

the dark knight strikes the movie screen

For much of his history, Batman and Gotham City have been almost inseparable. In many respects, they’re two sides of the same coin, full of the potential for both darkness and light. However, Grant Morrison, the comic mastermind behind the groundbreaking story Batman R.I.P, is doing the unthinkable and severing the strong ties between the city and the Bat.Morrison’s run has been full of status-quo-changing revelations for Bruce Wayne and Batman. He was introduced to his son Damian and sent into the past by the villain Darkseid. For more information on Batman’s return, check out our post “Batman returns to Gotham this October.”When Bruce Wayne returned, he found out that Dick Grayson had taken over the role of Batman, while Wayne’s son Damian had become the new Robin. Rather than taking back his original role, Bruce decided to let Dick and Damian continue their work in Gotham City while taking on a new mission for himself: setting up a global network of Batmen who will answer to Bruce Wayne himself. This isn’t the first time Morrison’s dealt with international Batmen. He featured the “Batmen of All Nations” (first introduced in 1955) in a three issue story arc in Batman. Among the members of this organization are The Knight and Squire (England), Man-of-Bats and Little Raven (Native American), El Gaucho (Argentina), and The Legionary (Italy). However, as many of these characters were either killed or revealed to be past their prime in this arc, Bruce doesn’t exactly have a large pool of candidates to choose from. Sounds like it’s time for a road trip! The new series Batman Incorporated will follow Bruce as he travels across the world searching for members to add to his team. In the first two issue story arc, Bruce and Selina Kylethe sultry Catwomantraveled to Japan to recruit a hero called Mr. Unknown. However, he discovers that Mr. Unknown has been murdered by Lord Death Man (a villain from a 1960s Japanese Batman manga being introduced into mainstream continuity for the first time). Bruce and Selina were then forced to change their plans, defeat Lord Death Man, and find a new Japanese recruitment in a whirlwind, action-packed story that nicely established a formula for the new series. The next story focuses on Batman and Gaucho, the Argentinian representative, followed by a stop back in Gotham City to meet up with Batwoman. Batman Incorporated has proven itself to be a unique and exciting spin on a classic character, and it will be a blast to see where it goes from here.
